Extractions

At Salt Lake City Dental Center we will do all that we can to protect and maintain your natural teeth for as long as possible. However, there are some cases where we may be unable to restore a tooth and its extraction may be the best or only solution to a dental problem.

When you come in for an extraction Dr. Stoker starts by numbing the area of the mouth and then proceeds to loosen and remove the tooth using specialized instruments. When getting an extraction done at our office we will make sure that you have all the needed instructions on post-surgery and at home care. We also strive to make sure that you are as comfortable as possible and will answer any questions that you may have.

Wisdom Teeth Removal

Wisdom teeth are your very back teeth and usually are the last teeth to erupt or sometimes do not erupt at all. These teeth are often not needed and usually are extracted due to a lack of space.  Sometimes wisdom teeth can start to push on other teeth causing pain or infection and create a need to have the teeth removed.

Dr. Stoker will most likely prescribe medications after your procedure to reduce the risk of infection and to help with any possible pain. There are some cases where sutures are used to aid in the healing process. If you have sutures placed you may need to come see Dr. Stoker for a quick follow up visit about a week later to remove the sutures and make sure the extraction sites are healing properly.

Quick Facts
Duration

The duration of an extraction appointment can vary, depending on the individual case. Some teeth come out fairly easily, and others may be impacted and require more time and patience to remove.

Insurance

Insurance coverage can vary depending on the insurance company and the plan that you have chosen. However, most of the time insurance does cover 50 to 80% of extractions after you have met your yearly deductible. To get a more precise estimate we would be happy contact your insurance company and get a list of your covered benefits.
